About Trusted Free Fonts

Why this catalogue exists

“Free font” is often too vague to be useful. A file may be free only for personal work, may permit commercial use but not modification, or may be distributed under an open licence with specific notices. Trusted Free Fonts was built to put those differences beside the download rather than hide them in a distant text file.

The project is operated in Póvoa de Varzim, Portugal, by Pedro Alexandre Vilas Boas Teixeira, the designer behind Pedro Teixeira Foundry. It combines type-design experience with repeatable file inspection and clear editorial explanations.

What is checked

Every published family is tied to a source and a review record. The workflow can inspect file format, family and style metadata, hashes, glyph count, Unicode coverage, package structure, licence evidence, file safety results and public-preview performance. A searchable glyph map lets visitors check real characters before installing the font.

A technical check does not replace the rights holder’s full licence. For that reason, each page separates verified facts, a short permission summary and the controlling legal text.

How fonts reach the site

Designers can submit their own families through a private account. Visitors can also suggest an official source without uploading a file or claiming authorship. A limited importer may prepare unchanged SIL Open Font License packages from verified official repositories; those records are owned internally by the locked Guest submissions account while the real designer name remains public.

Editorial independence

Catalogue inclusion, ranking and licence wording are not sold. Direct author-support links go to an external page chosen by the author, and Trusted Free Fonts does not take a share. If advertising is introduced, it is labelled, kept away from private and submission screens, and does not change a file’s review outcome.

Corrections are welcome

Font metadata and online sources can change. If a licence, author identity, download, glyph claim or safety detail appears wrong, use Report content. General questions can be sent to geral@trustedfreefonts.com.
